The American Revolution on Cape Cod and the Islands: The Antecedents, the War, the Aftermath

Guest Speaker: David Martin

As the country approaches the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, many people are curious to know the ways in which their own region was a part of the struggle for Independence. A common view is that the Revolution took place largely in such well-known places as Lexington and Concord, Valley Forge, Yorktown, etc. Yet, important events occurred on the Cape and Islands throughout the Revolutionary period. This session will provide illustrated information on little-known or neglected aspects of the Cape and islands’ roles in the Revolution, including Cape and Islands key leaders -- all drawn from a new book on the Revolution and the Cape and Islands, which will be available in summer 2025 with updated and brand-new research. The book is being published by West Barnstable Press, and is co-authored by 24 different writers in the Cape and Islands Historians Committee, chaired by David; in fact, seven of the co-authors are also members of CCGS.
